Rich is a fun-loving and hard-working father and family man who suffered a terrible accident while working on a home improvement project— a nail impaled him in the center of his eye, lacerating his cornea, paralyzing his pupil and penetrating his lens—leaving him in terrible pain and causing his vision to turn murky white, as if he was looking at milk through waxed paper.
After several surgeries to close the laceration, relieve the pressure build up in his eye and remove the damage lens, Rich received the gift of restored sight from a generous, anonymous donor when he underwent corneal transplant surgery.
It’s been a long road to recovery and he still has healing to do, but Rich is now able to drive, work and resume some of his favorite hobbies, like traveling with his family and playing catch with his eight-year old son Caiden.
Rich’s message to his donor family: “Please know that my family and I will never forget the remarkable and unselfish decision to help a stranger in need. You have our assurance that we will strive at every opportunity to do the same."
