Our Initiatives

A “See” Change Is Coming

The disparity is clear: while people in the U.S. and other developed nations have universal access to treatments for corneal blindness, millions of children and adults worldwide do not. KeraLink International, the only global organization solely dedicated to eradicating corneal blindness in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) intends to close this gap.

Eradicating Corneal Blindness: Our Strategy for Success

To succeed in this mission, we are uniting health care providers, technology innovators, philanthropists, and investors into a collaborative three-pronged strong strategy we call the PEN approach because it involves Prevention, Early detection and expedited treatment, and Novel therapeutic approaches.

Our PEN approach will rewrite the narrative of corneal health and fuse the efficiency, scale, and affordability of proven, market-based practices with the compassion of philanthropy. It prescribes new technologies and new solutions to address persistent inequities in eye health around the world.

Aligned with all three prongs of the PEN strategy, The Great Cornea Challenge is KeraLink International’s rallying call for innovations to eradicate corneal blindness in LMICs. From prevention initiatives to early detection and treatment, to novel therapies, the challenge seeks revolutionary, game-changing ideas, programs, and initiatives that need financial or technical support to effectively and affordably improve corneal health in LMICs.

International Keratitis Initiative: A Global Collaboration

Eradicating corneal blindness can be done – but KeraLink International cannot do it alone, nor can any single entity. Uniting the world’s leading advocates and professionals will ensure–– the right to sight for millions. The International Keratitis Initiative is a collaboration aiming to address keratitis—the leading cause of corneal blindness. KLI has partnered with the Aravind Eyecare System to establish IKI, and we are leveraging research and technology and mobilizing resources, particularly in India, where keratitis is a leading cause of blindness.
